Beginnings

One of the first things that you'll want to do after loading the game is to turn off the intro movie and make the game stop asking you which vid driver to use everytime that you start it. It's just a pain in the you-know-what. On your Windows desktop, click the start button. There should be an option at the top called DTR options. Open it up and follow the instructions....no more intro movie or vid prompt! Next, like most online games, DTR requires a couple of patches to bring it up to date. They can be found here:

The Patches 1.02 & 1.03

Patch 1.02d must be applied before using 1.03. Patch 1.03 is the most common version in use. It supports quite a few features that 1.02d did not, including support for a wider variety of video cards . It also has the logging features that many teams use to score their race series. This will bring you current as of 01/27/01.

Another thing that we should touch on right from the start: At the first screen in DTR, called the "Main Screen", Click on Options--->, then Click on Game, and you'll find a Realism Slider. Put this all the way over to 100%. This makes all the cars, including yours, much faster. That's the only way to really compete,as everyone else has their's on this setting, so you might as well get used to it from the beginning. If you need it to be less than that to get the hang of things, fine. But put it up to 100% as soon as possible and leave it there.
